(not tender lovin’ care)
T-Boz, Chilli and Left Eye were the ultimate hip-hop girl group of the nineties (and the best selling American girl group of all time). Everyone was on a TLC tip, they were the dopest and most laid back around, the girls were playful, fierce and their music actually stood for something…they were the faces of everything cool, and have defiantly influenced every girl group out there (even Yonce says so).

Style wise, TLC let loose, sticking it to the ‘man’, walking red carpets donned in an array or seriously casual and colourful ‘tomboy-ish’ streetwear or sportswear. A classic TLC styling was layering waistbands with baggy trousers and tight crops…or every dam thing oversized. They were hip-hop chic through and through.
“We wanted to empower young girls to have their own stash of condoms and not to leave it up to the guys. Some parents thought we were telling their kids to have sex. But we were making a fashion statement to make it easier to talk about sex.” – T-Boz
“Three little cute girls dressed like boys was cool back then. Our style was cartoonish but fly at the same time.” – Chilli
The reason TLC’s music is so timeless and they continue to influence is because of their fearlessness to address real issue, examples- Aids in Waterfalls, Safe Sex when lacing outfits in wrapped condoms and female self of steam and empowerment in ‘Unpretty’.
Whether you’re vibesin’ ‘No Scrubs’, getting your crazy sexy cool on to ‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg’ or having a moment to yourself getting low to ‘Red Light Special’…you’ve got to love them.
So ladies…sling on your oversized fits, put your condoms in your bag and lets run this world ✌️
Holla at a bit of customisation!
